Neurosonology is an imaging technique, well-known as ultrasound, which we use mainly for its special blood flow display function. We focus on the examination of the arteries that bring blood to the brain (carotid arteries). However, specialized ultrasound (transcranial Doppler – TCD) allows us to investigate arteries directly in the brain area with certain limitations.
One of the main findings is the narrowing of the artery, professionaly known as stenosis. This can be a cause of strokes. Together with an assessment of the patient’s condition, a finding of stenosis leads to further diagnostic decisions. Significant stenosis can be treated surgically or by radiological endovascular surgery.
